Red Sox AAA pitcher scratched from start; could possibly take Walker Buehler’s start on Monday

Red Sox AAA pitcher scratched from start; could possibly take Walker Buehler’s start on Monday originally appeared on The Sporting News

The Boston Red Sox recently demoted Walker Buehler from the starting rotation, as he has been struggling all year to pitch effectively. Now, the Sox need to decide who to throw tomorrow in his place.

There might be an answer, however. AAA pitcher Kyle Harrison, a piece from the Rafael Devers trade, was scratched from his start today in Worcester. This could mean he joins the team tomorrow to be on the mound for first pitch.

According to Masslive’s Chris Cotillo, the Sox were between Harrison and Richard Fitts, who is already with the team in a reliever role. Although, the fact that Harrison has been scratched from his start points to the Sox probably thinking Fitts will pitch in relief today. If he does, maybe as a long reliever.

If so, then Fitts definitely won’t be ready for tomorrow. Meaning Harrison will travel from Worcester to Baltimore to join the Sox against the Orioles.

Harrison will probably do good, as he is a solid back end of the rotation, with better stats than Fitts, who has held the position for the Sox before. He’s only played in eight games this season, but he’s got a 4.56 ERA, 25 Ks, and a WHIP of 1.268 in 23 innings pitched.

Hopefully, Harrison has made some improvements in the minors though, as it would make the Sox’s playoff chances even better. All people can do is wait to see if he’s called up once again, or if Fitts is taking the mound.
