Could the Giants end up signing Mets free agent Starling Marte?
Giants Predicted to Land Mets Two-Time All-Star Free Agent
The 2025 season was certainly a disappointing one for the San Francisco Giants. They finished the 2025 campaign with an 81-81 record and missed the playoffs for the fourth year in a row. With this, it was a frustrating season for the Giants, and they will now be looking to have better results during the 2026 campaign from here.
In response to their rough 2025 season, the Giants had a pretty active offseason. The Giants brought in several new players in hopes that they will have a bounce-back year in 2026. Among the Giants’ newcomers include Harrison Bader, Luis Arraez, Tyler Mahle, Adrian Houser, and Sam Hentges. With this, the Giants certainly have some new talent to work with heading into the upcoming season.
Yet, when taking a look at the Giants’ roster, it is fair to argue that they should not be done making additions to their roster. One of their top needs is another impactful outfielder, and they are now being linked to one of the top remaining free agent ones because of it.
Giants Predicted to Sign Mets Free Agent Starling Marte
In a recent article for FanSided, Christopher Kline took a look at the top remaining free agents, and outfielder Starling Marte made the cut. It is easy to understand why, as he is certainly one of the most notable free agents who is still looking for a new home.
When it came to Marte, Kline predicted that the Giants would end up being the team that signs the 37-year-old outfielder.
“The Giants’ only reliable bench outfielder right now is Drew Gilbert, who posted a .598 OPS last season. He also has three Minor League options left. Marte was more of a DH for the Mets in 2025, but San Francisco can probably get away with the occasional spot start in right or left field. He can also soak up spare DH reps with Rafael Devers and Luis Arráez committed to first base and second base, respectively,” Kline wrote.
When taking a look at the Giants’ roster, Marte would certainly have the potential to be a nice fit on their roster. He would give them another outfielder with experience to work with and could get into a decent amount of game action with San Francisco because of it.
Marte’s strong resume also adds to his appeal as a potential target for the Giants. This is because the 14-year veteran is a two-time All-Star and two-time Gold Glove winner. Thus, having him around would certainly not be a bad thing for a Giants club that is looking to be better in 2026.
Marte Could Generate Interest From Other Teams Besides Giants
With Marte being one of the most notable outfielder free agents left, it is certainly possible that the Giants could have competition for his services if they end up pursuing him. Teams around the league always value veterans like Marte, and he is still plenty capable of making an impact at this stage of his career.
In 98 games this past season with the New York Mets, Marte had nine home runs, 34 RBIs, and a .270 batting average. With numbers like these, he could be a good depth pickup for the Giants. It will be interesting to see if they end up landing him.
