Philadelphia Phillies Alec Bohm trade block report rumors

The offseason shakeup that’s expected to come to Philadelphia might include one of the club’s 2024 All-Stars.

Alec Bohm is reportedly on the trade block, ESPN‘s Jeff Passan wrote on Tuesday in a piece previewing the offseason and identifying the trade candidates that could dictate it. It’s not the first time Bohm has been suggested as a potential trade option, but it’s perhaps the most concrete evidence yet that the Phillies, who Passan writes “are looking to shake up their team” following an early postseason exit, will actually consider it.

Bohm slashed .280/.332/.448 in 2024 in the best full season of his career, but that aforementioned All-Star nod wasn’t a sign of things to come in the second half. He struggled in the last two months of the regular season, even before a wrist injury sidelined him for the first couple weeks of September, and went 1-for-13 in the National League Division Series — which also saw him get benched in Game 2. Phillies manager Rob Thomson said the move was in hopes of some “energy” to spark his team in the form of Edmundo Sosa, but it’s easy to think it was more an indictment on Bohm than an endorsement of Sosa.

And then, of course, there’s the non-statistical stuff with Bohm, whose helmet-slamming and on-field emotional outbursts, including this past October, have been plenty-documented. The Phillies have dealt with that on and off since Bohm came up to the big leagues in 2020, but after five years and a 28th birthday, it’s probably something they wish would’ve subsided by now.

Bohm seemed confident after the NLDS that, despite things appearing as though he was at a crossroads in his Phillies career, he’d be back with the club in 2025. Perhaps that’s the case. It’s still far from definitive, but Tuesday brought us an indication it might not be.
