🚨 QUIET GAMBLE IN GREEN BAY: Packers Eye Experienced, Productive QB in 2026 Draft — A Move That Feels Bigger Than It Looks 👇 A Backup… Or Something More?: This Pick Might Not Be Flashy — But It Could Change Everything Down the Line.

NFL.com’s Chad Reuter predicted Matt LaFleur and the Green Bay Packers to select quarterback Joey Aguilar in the seventh round of the 2026 NFL Draft.

The Green Bay Packers have some recent history of rolling the dice on a signal-caller in the seventh round of the NFL Draft. NFL.com’s Chad Reuter sees the Packers doing that again in the 2026 NFL Draft.

In his seven-round NFL mock Saturday, Reuter predicted the Packers to select Tennessee quarterback Joey Aguilar at No. 236 overall in the seventh round.

That selection is one of two picks Green Bay has in the seventh and final round. The team also has the No. 255 overall choice, which is a compensatory pick.

Aguilar started three seasons during his college career. During 2025, he led the Tennessee Volunteers to an 8-5 record.

In 38 collegiate games, Aguilar threw for 10,325 yards with 80 touchdowns.

“Compact, durable quarterback who has climbed levels twice and had success. Aguilar will be a 25-year-old rookie with three seasons of FBS experience,” wrote NFL.com’s Lance Zierlein. “He played in a system heavy on play-action at Tennessee, but his touchdown production and overall consistency dipped after an explosive early stretch in 2025.

“He dissects zone defenses with adequate processing speed and decisiveness, but tight-window throws are a challenge. Whether on- or off-platform, he makes receivers work too hard for their catches with inconsistent placement and a lack of touch underneath. He’s tough in the pocket and proved he could make plays under pressure.

“Aguilar’s age shouldn’t work against him, but he must prove he can work through pro progressions and throw with better accuracy to earn a backup job.”

Packers Predcited to Draft Tennessee QB Joey Aguilar

GettyNFL.com’s Lance Zierlein predicted Tennessee quarterback Joey Aguilar to be a sixth or seventh-round pick in the 2026 NFL Draft.

Zierlein projected Aguilar to be an average backup in his NFL career. But it’s rarely a bad idea to take a late-round flier on a signal-caller.

The Packers did that two years ago with former Tulane quarterback Michael Pratt. Green Bay selected him at No. 245 overall.

Pratt didn’t make the Packers roster during 2024 training camp, but he spent his rookie season on the Tampa Bay Buccaneers practice squad.

Aguilar was the 11th and final signal-caller off the draft board in Reuter’s mock. He could be an ideal quarterback flier because of his extensive college experience, especially this past season in the SEC.

During 2025, Aguilar completed 67.3% of his passes for 3,565 yards. He also had 24 touchdowns and 10 interceptions while averaging 8.8 yards per attempt.

Packers QB Depth Entering 2026 NFL Draft

GettyNFL.com’s Chad Reuter predicted Matt LaFleur and the Green Bay Packers to select quarterback Joey Aguilar in the seventh round of the 2026 NFL Draft.

Unless Green Bay makes a final move before the 2026 NFL Draft, the Packers will enter the first round on April 23 with three signal-callers on the roster. Jordan Love is the incumbent starter while Desmond Ridder moved up the team’s depth chart to QB2 this offseason.

The Packers lost former backup Malik Willis to NFL free agency.

Green Bay signed 2025 sixth-round pick Kyle McCord to a reserve/futures contract this offseason to be a QB3.

A lot of analysts would likely argue Ridder and McCord aren’t ideal backups to Love in 2026. For that reason, pundits have linked the Packers to potential other backups such as Kirk Cousins in free agency and Anthony Richardson in trade rumors.

If the Packers don’t plan to make a trade for Richardson, taking a flier on Aguilar would make a lot of sense. The 25-year-old would bring a lot of college experience and could offer more upside than McCord.
