Garcia is raking at Triple-A, but he’s an outfielder, and the Red Sox have more than enough of those.

What the Red Sox don’t have enough of? Production at first base.

And on Friday, Garcia spent some time pregame at Triple-A Worcester taking reps at first. Worcester manager Chad Tracy was a corner infielder in the major leagues and can be seen overseeing the work here.

Garcia is not entirely unfamiliar with the dirt. Before he signed with Boston’s organization as a 16-year old, he was a shortstop.

There are plenty of nuances to be learned at first base, but there’s very much a chance that Garcia can unlock the position.

The right-handed hitter has certainly already solved the code at the plate.

He’s batting .307 in 58 games with Worcester with 16 homers, 11 doubles, three triples and 49 RBI.

Boston just has to figure out where to put his glove.

And if Garcia proves adept at first base, his trip to Fenway Park might come sooner than anyone expected.
