Green Bay Packers fans will always have reverence and respect for the history built by Aaron Rodgers as the team’s starting quarterback, but the further removed from the Rodgers era we get, the more grateful Packers fans can be that he’s gone.
And even more thankful that Jordan Love is in his place.
Rodgers, like many future Hall of Fame quarterbacks, has become a larger-than-life figure, even among NFL players. Now that he’s with the Pittsburgh Steelers, Rodgers has at least one young receiver — second-year Roman Wilson — who is apparently struggling with his intimidating presence. The comments Rodgers made will have Packers fans rolling their eyes all the way into the back of their heads.
“I need to get Roman out of his own head a bit. He cares so much about whether it’s my approval or he’s doing it right. He’s just got to trust himself because he’s so damn talented,” Rodgers said, via 93.7 The Fan in Pittsburgh.
Aaron Rodgers embarrasses young receiver on the Steelers publicly
There’s nothing untrue about what Rodgers is saying. Roman Wilson, a former Day 2 pick by the Steelers, is extremely talented. The Steelers have been counting on him for a breakout year in 2025. He’s also probably doing too much thinking and not enough reacting on the field.
And he probably is intimidated by Rodgers, because the last thing you want to do is go viral on the internet for dropping a pass and then getting chewed out by Aaron Rodgers on video for it.
This is simultaneously a true call-out by Rodgers, but embarrassing if you’re Roman Wilson.
This makes it seem like Wilson is fearful of Rodgers and is struggling mentally on the field because of it. That’s not the way a quarterback is meant to help a young receiver come along, and you can’t just slap a compliment on the end of these types of comments and expect it to fix all the rest of what you said.
Almost every time Rodgers gets in front of a camera or microphone, Packers fans seem to have a new reason to be more and more thankful for Jordan Love. Although it helps that he’s practicing well, you can pretty easily contrast the way Rodgers is speaking here about Roman Wilson and the way Love has spoken about his young receivers.
There was a similar situation in Denver when Peyton Manning was in his final years with Broncos second-round pick Cody Latimer. Latimer really struggled with the gravitas of Peyton Manning, and as a result, struggled to do less thinking and more playing football. And ultimately, he couldn’t ever get on the field and produce for that team.
Rodgers speaking too freely on certain things is not news to Packers fans in the least, and everyone is happy to let that distance continue growing larger and larger.
