Byron Buxton News Surfaces After Nine Straight Missed Games

The Minnesota Twins’ season took a turn after the trade deadline fire sale completely altered the path of the franchise, moving on from several players on the active roster.

With the Twins sitting at 53–60, the team will look to rebuild a new era of Twins baseball following the key departures of star shortstop Carlos Correa and closer Jhoan Duran.

After the roster reconstruction, longtime star Byron Buxton emphasized his commitment to staying with the franchise despite the lack of a clear new direction.

The 31-year-old center fielder has been enjoying one of the best seasons of his career in 2025, batting .282 with a .905 OPS, 23 home runs, and 17 stolen bases over 85 games.

Byron Buxton Provides Update on Ribcage Injury

Unfortunately for Minnesota, Buxton has not appeared in a game since July 26. During that matchup with the Washington Nationals, he suffered left ribcage inflammation and was placed on the 10-day injured list on July 29.

Ahead of Wednesday’s series finale against the Detroit Tigers, Buxton announced that he hit on both Tuesday and Wednesday and figures to be ready for activation in a couple of days if his progress continues.

“Byron Buxton started hitting Tuesday. Hit today. He’s upbeat. His baseball activity is picking up. If he keeps trending this way, he thought he’d be ready in a couple of days.”

Buxton’s Twins Legacy

Buxton has been the face of Twins baseball since being drafted second overall in the 2012 MLB Draft. He debuted in 2015 and, although he has struggled to stay healthy throughout his career, his performance has never been in question.

He’s earned a Gold Glove Award, two All-Star selections, and in 2023 helped break a postseason losing streak that dated back to 2004.

Over 857 career regular-season games, Buxton owns a .249 batting average, .794 OPS, 156 home runs, 412 RBIs, and 110 stolen bases.

He remains under contract with the Twins through the 2028 season after signing a seven-year, $100 million extension in December 2021. With a full no-trade clause, Buxton has made it clear he intends to remain in Minnesota long-term.

The offseason will provide more clarity on the organization’s direction—whether they plan to optimize the final years of Buxton’s prime or commit to a full rebuild.
