The Chicago White Sox have found a gem in their recent acquisition, Randal Grichuk. Just a week into his tenure with the team, Grichuk has already made a significant impact, demonstrating why he’s a valuable addition to the roster.
In a thrilling Sunday game against the Seattle Mariners, Grichuk showcased his power by launching a solo home run, his second with the White Sox, over the right-field wall. This 377-foot shot off Eduard Bazardo came at a crucial moment, tying the game in the bottom of the eighth inning with the White Sox down 1-0. Grichuk, who was recently picked up after being designated for assignment by the New York Yankees, stepped in to fill the gap left by Austin Hays, who’s sidelined with a calf strain.
Grichuk’s journey through the MLB has seen him don the jerseys of eight different teams, making his mark in his 13th season. Originally drafted by the Los Angeles Angels in 2009, Grichuk made his MLB debut with the St. Louis Cardinals in 2014, and since then, he’s been a reliable presence in the outfield for multiple teams.
The White Sox didn’t stop at Grichuk’s heroics. Drew Romo capitalized on a fielding miscue in the eighth inning, tagging up on Miguel Vargas’ fly ball to Randy Arozarena. Arozarena’s overthrow to home allowed Romo to score, putting the White Sox ahead 2-1.
The ninth inning was a nail-biter. Seranthony DomĂnguez found himself in a tight spot with the bases loaded and only one out. But with ice in his veins, DomĂnguez secured his ninth save of the season by inducing a pop-out from Cole Young and a groundout from Brendan Donovan, sealing the victory for Chicago.
Davis Martin, the White Sox’s starting pitcher, delivered a solid performance, allowing just one run on three hits over six innings. Bryan Hudson stepped in to earn his first win of the season, giving up only one hit in the eighth inning.

The Mariners managed to get on the board early, courtesy of Julio RodrĂguez scoring on a fielding error by Tristan Peters in the first inning. Despite a strong start from Logan Gilbert, who struck out nine and allowed just one hit over six innings, the Mariners couldn’t hold onto their lead.
Looking ahead, the White Sox will take a breather on Monday before returning to action on Tuesday. Right-hander Erick Fedde, still searching for his first win of the season, will take the mound against the Kansas City Royals.
The Royals will counter with Stephen Kolek, aiming to build on his current 1-0 record. It promises to be an exciting series as both teams look to gain momentum.
