What Boston Red Sox are getting in LSU baseball’s Anthony Eyanson in 2025 MLB Draft

LSU baseball pitcher Anthony Eyanson was selected No. 87 overall by the Boston Red Sox in the third round of the 2025 MLB Draft on Sunday night.

Eyanson is the third LSU pitcher to be picked in this year’s draft following Kade Anderson, who was taken No. 3 overall by the Seattle Mariners, and Chase Shores, at No. 47 by the Los Angeles Angels. The junior’s selection by the Red Sox means LSU’s top two arms on its 2025 NCAA championship team ended up being early draft picks.

“There’s one guy a summer in this crazy new world that we’re living in that you know it’s going to tip the scales for you to have an opportunity to be (at the College World Series in Omaha) and do what we just accomplished, and that was Anthony Eyanson,” LSU baseball coach Jay Johnson said about Eyanson following the team clinching its eighth national title last month.

In his lone season in Baton Rouge, the righthanded pitcher made his mark. Eyanson tied Anderson for the most wins on LSU’s staff with 12. He had the best ERA of LSU’s starters with at 3.00 and he struck out 152 batters. Opponents managed a .196 average against Eyanson.

What Boston Red Sox are getting from LSU baseball pitcher Anthony Eyanson

Arguably, there was not a pitcher in college baseball last season as good as Eyanson in pitching out of jams. Multiple times during the NCAA tournament a team had at least one runner in scoring position with no outs and came away empty handed against Eyanson.

From his first day in Baton Rouge, Eyanson was all business and he honed his craft over the 10 months to become a better pitcher. His improvement on mixing his pitches and his overall location and command on multiple pitches were highlights.

The effectiveness of Eyanson’s slider was tough for hitters to time up following his fastball.
