The Christian McCaffrey news that San Francisco 49ers fans have long been waiting for has finally arrived.

McCaffrey remains listed as questionable for the Niners’ Week 10 matchup against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. But according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, McCaffrey will officially make his season debut on Sunday. Wide receiver Deebo Samuel, who is dealing with rib and oblique issues, is also expected to suit up.

49ers RB Christian McCaffrey, listed as questionable due to his Achilles injury, will make his 2024 season debut Sunday vs. Tampa. The team believes McCaffrey could have played last week.

McCaffrey missed the 49ers’ first eight games due to a lingering Achilles injury. What was first thought to be a minor leg issue suffered in training camp worsened to the point that McCaffrey had to fly to Germany to receive treatment from a specialist.

The two-time All-Pro on Friday admitted that his injury “went wrong” in ways he nor the 49ers were able to anticipate. But McCaffrey assured the media that all the issues are finally behind him.

49ers fans know that when McCaffrey is on the field, his impact is undeniable. He led the entire NFL in total yards from scrimmage last season with 2,023. Nobody else was able to breach the 1,900 plateau.

McCaffrey’s availability has been an issue throughout his career. He played just 10 games combined in the 2020 and 2021 seasons as a member of the Carolina Panthers. But before this latest injury, McCaffrey had mostly had a clean bill since joining the 49ers.
