NEED TO KNOW
- Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones is a father to three kids, including daughter Charlotte Jones
- Charlotte is the executive vice president and chief brand officer of the NFL team
- She appears in Netflix’s season 2 of Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders
Jerry Jones’ daughter, Charlotte Jones, has followed closely in his footsteps to become one of the most powerful women in the NFL.
Charlotte was born to the Dallas Cowboys owner and his wife, Eugenia “Gene” Jones, in 1966. When she was 3, they moved from Missouri to Little Rock, Ark., where she lived until she headed off to college. Later on, her dad decided to purchase the NFL team in 1989 and Charlotte almost immediately began working with him for the organization.
Although football was always a passion for the family, managing a professional team was a new challenge, and one that Charlotte was initially hesitant to take on. Still, Jones was adamant that she was up to the task and insisted that she join the team.
“Every step of the way, he was always my biggest cheerleader,” Charlotte told NBC Dallas in 2018 about her father. Describing him as “passionate, supportive and loving,” she explained that despite her lack of knowledge or experience in professional football, her dad wanted to put her in charge. “I have always said that he has had more confidence in me than I’ve ever had in myself.”
Since then, Charlotte has become an integral part of the entire Dallas Cowboys organization. Aside from being a co-owner of the team, she is the executive vice president and chief brand officer. In many ways, she’s the reason that the Cowboys are where they are today. But that’s not the reason she loves her job so much.
“I think the greatest part about our business is that it’s a family business,” she told Today (via The Dallas Morning News) in 2016. “The most important thing is family.”

Charlotte may be her father’s only daughter, but she’s not an only child. She also has two brothers.
Her older brother, Stephen, was born in 1964 and currently serves as the chief operating officer for the Cowboys. The youngest child, Jerry Jr., was born in 1969 and is the chief sales and marketing officer for the team.
Based on how they were raised, it’s not surprising that the three siblings have opted to work together. “My mom and dad stressed the importance of family,” Charlotte told The Dallas Morning News in 2017. “It was family first. At dance recitals and school events, my parents were always there.”
Being the only girl, Charlotte had to be tough growing up, and a big part of that, she says, is how she was raised.
“There were two boys, myself, and my dad and my mom at the table,” she told NBC Dallas in 2018. “My dad always treated me the same way with the same level of expectation and hope as he did my brothers.”

Following high school, Charlotte moved to California where she attended Stanford University. She graduated in 1988 with a degree in human biology with an emphasis in organizational management.
The idea of one day being a top executive in the NFL world wasn’t one she could even fathom at the time. In fact, she was interested in pursuing a career in politics.
After graduating from Stanford, she moved to Washington D.C. and began working for Tommy Robinson, a Republican congressman, per the Deseret News.
“Washington’s the place you go to make a difference,” she told Refinery29 in 2018. “The last thing on my mind was wanting to be part of the family business.”

Charlotte eventually joined the Dallas Cowboys in 1990, just one year after her father purchased the team.
“Football is the fabric of our family. Growing up with two brothers and a father who loved and played football, my passion for the game began at an early age,” she told Little Rock Soiree in 2017. “Football is who we are.”
Still, appreciating the game isn’t the same as being in charge of a team. Because of that, when Jones asked her to join him at the company, she was reluctant.
“I told him I didn’t know anything about running a professional sports franchise, and he looked at me dead serious and said, ‘Neither do I. I just need someone around me that I can trust. Someone that I know won’t be afraid of a challenge, and who will get in here and fail and get up and go again,’ ” she told PaperCity Magazine in 2021.
With that, she agreed and has been working with him and the Cowboys ever since. She is a co-owner of the team, along with her brothers. She’s also the executive vice president and chief brand officer, meaning she’s responsible for brand marketing and entertainment.

One of the biggest contributions Charlotte has offered is her creation of the Cowboys’ Thanksgiving halftime show in 1996.
While the famed annual show has now become a mainstay in the NFL, at the time it had never been done before other than during the Super Bowl. Aside from the entertainment value, the halftime show is a charitable event as well. Charlotte partnered with the Salvation Army for the project and it is now known as the Red Kettle Kickoff.
“We recognized that we could partner with an organization that was truly making a difference in the lives of those who needed the most help and magnify their impact,” she told Little Rock Soiree, adding that the collaboration has helped raise over $2 billion dollars since its inception. “It’s the most important thing we do at the Dallas Cowboys.”
