Former Coyote Joey Lombard signs with Kansas City Chiefs

VERMILLION, S.D. (Dakota News Now) – Four-year starter on the Coyote offensive line, Joey Lombard has inked a deal with the two-time defending NFL champion Kansas City Chiefs, it was announced by Lombard on Thursday via social media.

The news comes following the attendance of Lombard on Day 1 of mandatory minicamp practices, being invited back by the Chiefs following his rookie minicamp work outs following the NFL Draft in May.

Lombard started 48 games in his USD career, primarily at center, but also spending time at left guard early in his career. The Anoka, Minnesota native was a two-time MVFC All-Conference performer (2023, 2024) and an All-American selection in his senior season.

“Joey undoubtedly has the talent, work ethic, and professionalism to be a great contributor in the NFL,” said head football coach Travis Johansen. “Kansas City is getting another Yote that will improve their organization daily, we are all proud of what Joey has done but more importantly what he’s going to do!”

Earning Second Team All-America recognition after the 2024 season (AP) and Third Team honors from STATS Perform. He was the captain on the offensive line unit at center that second in the FCS in tackles for loss allowed (2.93), sixth in rushing offense (215.9), and ninth in the FCS in total offense per game (436.9).

He joins former Coyote Jack Cochrane on the roster. Lombard joins former teammate JJ Galbreath in signing an undrafted free agent heading into the 2025 season.
