Dallas Cowboys cheerleader Kelsey Wetterberg on her nurse-approved sneakers and secret for voluminous curls

Even if you haven’t watched Netflix’s, “America’s Sweethearts: Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders,” by now, you’ve likely heard of the docu-series — or, like in my case, have been told by dozens of friends that it’s an absolute must-watch. When it premiered over the summer, it spent about a month on Netflix’s Global Top 10 TV list, according to the streaming service.

Kelcey Wetterberg was one of the show’s breakout stars. During the season, she was a first-group leader (team captain) and her leadership skills and her ability to juggle the many demands of the sport and team, while also working as a pediatric nurse, quickly made her a fan-favorite among viewers.

The season on the show was her last with the Dallas Cowboys cheerleaders (often called DCC). Reflecting on her time, she shares that the thing she now misses most about being a Dallas Cowboys cheerleader is her teammates.

“You have an excuse to go and see your friends and just hang out every night for like three hours, so that’s something that I’m definitely missing,” Wetterberg tells Shop TODAY. “You have to go out of your way and plan dinners now instead of automatically seeing them every single night.”

Thankfully, as an, “All Star” you might still catch her at appearances. Plus she says they still manage to plan plenty of “fun get-togethers.”

We’re all anxiously waiting to hear if there will be another season of “America’s Sweethearts,” to get to see some of that camaraderie on our screens again. But in the meantime, we caught up with Wetterberg to chat about some of her must-haves, from the products she uses to achieve those enviable curls to the sneakers she swears by as a nurse.

Shopping Diaries: Kelcey Wetterberg

Uniqlo Washable Knit Ribbed Cardigan

Uniqlo Washable Knit Ribbed Pants

As a Texas icon, Wetterberg was the perfect person to help welcome Uniqlo to The Lone Star State. She teamed up with the brand to help celebrate the expansion, with multiple new Texas stores, including in Dallas.

“I’m excited to have them just here [in Texas], within my reach,” Wetterberg says. “I’ve been able to shop online with them for a while, but their stuff is so easily paired with things in my wardrobe already. They’ve got awesome simple, essential pieces in their collection — especially in their fall wear collection — that I’ve really loved. They’re pieces that can stay in my closet forever and pair with different things that I already have.”

In particular, she’s been loving the brand’s knitwear set. “It is so comfortable, I pretty much haven’t taken it off.”

Fit Simplify Resistance Loop Exercise Bands

Wetterberg says that her fitness routine has changed a lot since leaving the Dallas Cowboy cheerleaders. “I used to do cardio at practice for three hours, five nights a week and then games on Sundays, so it’s definitely changed a lot. But it’s been kind of fun to try new things and go to new classes and see what works best for my body. Decide for myself rather than someone else deciding for me what my workout routine is going to be.”

While she says she’s “fallen in love with reformer Pilates,” she’s also been doing a lot of workouts with bands. “I think that’s helped a lot with stability in my hips after doing the kick line for so long.”

While she didn’t name the specific bands she uses, these are a popular Amazon option with more than 90,000 five-star ratings.

Charlotte Tilbury Airbrush Flawless Waterproof Setting Spray

“When I came into DCC five years ago, I pretty much wore foundation and mascara, and that’s really it,” Wetterberg says. And while she learned plenty of valuable beauty tips during her time there, the most important one was using a setting spray or powder. And she says this one from Charlotte Tilbury is essential to her routine. “That’s what makes my makeup stay the most,” she shares.

Embryolisse Lait-Crème Concentré

Another thing she learned? “I never knew this until one of my friends told me — she’s a makeup artist — but you need to look at the ingredients on your primer and your foundation and make sure that they match. So there are water-based [products], and if the first ingredient is water, you want both of them to be water. I think the other ones are silicone-based. And if you use a silicone-based primer and then a water-based foundation, it will just slide off.”

She uses the above water-based formula as a primer and pairs it with the below foundation.

Armani Beauty Luminous Silk Perfect Glow Flawless Oil-Free Foundation

This award-winning foundation is said to provide up to 24 hours of glow, wear and hydration. The medium-coverage formula is buildable, so you can customize your finish.

Kitsch Ceramic Thermal Rollers

If you watch “America’s Sweethearts” or any Dallas Cowboys Cheer performance, there’s a good chance that you’ve wondered how the women on the team get their big, voluminous curls. And Wetterberg let us in on some of her secrets. “You have to set your curls,” she says. After curling, she uses these rollers to help set the curls around her face and on the top of her head.

Color Wow Dream Coat

Wetterberg calls Color Wow’s Dream Coat spray one of her “tried-and-trues,” adding that it’s “made a big difference” since she started using it — especially when it comes to keeping her hair looking its best through sweaty performances in the Texas heat. She shares that it “helps with the humidity a lot.”

Wetterberg adds, “I use a ton of it on my hair before I blow dry it. That helps a lot because my hair is actually naturally curly, wavy. So if I don’t put that on, as soon as I start sweating, it starts to curl.”

On Cloudnova 2

As a pediatric nurse, Wetterberg spends a lot of time on her feet during the workday. And she says she wears her sneakers from On “almost every day.” While she didn’t share which pair she owns, the brand’s Cloudnova shoes are a popular lifestyle option, designed for all-day wear.

APL Women’s TechLoom Bliss

When she’s not in her On sneakers, you can find her in these shoes from APL. “They’re super comfy, they’re really lightweight and easy to walk around in all day,” Wetterberg says.

Dyson Airwrap

Wetterberg says the Dyson Airwrap was one of the most common beauty items in the Dallas Cowboys cheerleaders’ locker rooms. “We all have splurged on the Dyson,” she says. “Whenever we go in and have to touch up or fix our hair, you can barely hear in the locker rooms, everyone’s Dysons are running.”

In large part, it’s thanks to its ability to style hair while minimizing damage. “We were curling our hair almost every single day for practice and games and appearances. So taking good care of your hair while you’re doing that makes a big difference.”

And it’s still a regular part of her routine. “It is a splurge, but one day does not pass by without me using my Dyson.”

The sports world is buzzing with controversy following a bold statement from Detroit Lions star wide receiver Amon-Ra St. Brown, who has publicly announced his refusal to participate in Pride Month celebrations, asserting that “WOKE” culture does not deserve recognition. The 25-year-old All-Pro, known for his electrifying performances on the field and vibrant personality off it, made the remarks during a recent podcast appearance, sending shockwaves through the NFL and beyond. While the exact quote remains undisclosed, sources describe it as a pointed critique of what St. Brown perceives as performative social movements, igniting a firestorm of reactions from fans, analysts, and fellow athletes.

In a move that stunned football fans across the league, Green Bay Packers head coach Matt LaFleur reportedly requested that the NFL ban Detroit Lions fans from Lambeau Field for the season opener, arguing that they were “too loud and lack discipline.” The statement, though unusual in the context of professional sports, quickly made headlines and ignited a storm of reactions from both fan bases. LaFleur’s claim highlighted what he described as an “uncontrollable presence” whenever Lions supporters descend on Green Bay, turning the legendary stadium into hostile territory for his players rather than the fortress it has long been celebrated to be. According to sources close to the Packers organization, the coach insisted that the noise levels and unruly behavior from visiting fans disrupted the home team’s rhythm and compromised what should have been a home-field advantage. His request to the league was framed not merely as a plea for fairness, but as a matter of ensuring order and safety in the stands.
