And just like that, Kansas City Chiefs superstar quarterback Patrick Mahomes is now an NFL vet for nearly a decade.
In a post on X (formerly Twitter), the Chiefs showed a video of the former Texas Tech Red Raiders star signal-caller arriving at the team’s facility, adding a caption that read: “Year 9.”

Indeed. It has been that long since the Chiefs landed Mahomes in the 2017 NFL draft.
Kansas City selected Mahomes 10th overall in the first round of that year’s draft. With the benefit of hindsight, anyone can confidently say that Kansas City pulled off a massive steal with their Mahomes pick.
Some of the other players taken before Mahomes in his draft class were the likes of quarterback Mitchell Trubisky, running back Leonard Fournette and wide receivers Corey Davis and John Ross.
Mahomes is the gift that keeps on giving for the Kansas City Chiefs

Although the Chiefs lost to the Philadelphia Eagles at Super Bowl 59 last February, there is no denying that Kansas City has been successful with Mahomes under center.
Since Mahomes entered the NFL, the Chiefs have won three Super Bowls. He has also won three Super Bowl Most Valuable Player awards, two NFL MVP titles and six Pro Bowl nods. Those are just some of the new accolades that Mahomes has achieved . Perhaps what’s more impressive is the fact that he’s done it all before he even becomes 30 years old.
Mahomes, who will turn 30 in September, threw for 3,928 passing yards and 26 touchdowns with 11 interceptions in the 2024 season.
