UPDATE: Cowboys Could Pursue Versatile CB in Latest Free Agency Prediction

There are multiple names on the market the Dallas Cowboys could solve their cornerback concerns with.

The Dallas Cowboys have been known to carry a mindset of “letting the leafs fall” at this point in the offseason.

Players are working out at OTAs, there is plenty of time until training camp, and there are a good amount of names still available in free agency in case the front office is desperate to shop.

For now, the Cowboys want to check out what they have to work with.

There is no position the Cowboys are monitoring as closely as the cornerbacks. In a unit filled with newcomers, injuries, and overall uncertainty, there’s also no surprise that Dallas is mentioned in free agency rumors that would calm these worries.

In Bleacher Report’s latest prediction, writer Moe Moton picks the Cowboys to pursue veteran defensive back Kendall Fuller to fill multiple gaps in Dallas’ cornerback situation.

Fuller played in 11 games last season with the Miami Dolphins after he dealt with concussion and knee issues last season; he was released after missing the final two games of the year. The former third-round pick in 2016 registered 50 tackles and seven pass deflections on the season.

“Dallas can bring in Fuller to shore up its pass coverage,” B/R says. “He can line up outside to fill in for [Trevon] Diggs and transition into the slot if none of the young defensive backs impress in nickel duties. The 30-year-old has extensive experience playing on the boundary and as a nickelback.”

Diggs is expected to miss a big chunk of the first half of the season as he works back from a second major knee surgery. Another injury concern is Dallas’ coveted rookie third-round pick Shavon Revel Jr. who is rehabbing a torn ACL, but is expected to return sometime before Diggs.

Perhaps the greatest potential Fuller adds to this Cowboys roster is his versatility, as long as his health allows.

Dallas lost nickel corner Jourdan Lewis in free agency and currently may be without a replacement.

With DaRon Bland and trade-get Kaiir Elam likely covering the outside, Fuller could slide in nicely in the slot and be rotated with a rangy body like Israel Mukuamu. His experience – something the Cowboys’ current room lacks – also allows him to be shuffled to the boundary if there is a need for adjustments.

Regardless of where Fuller plays, the nine-year veteran has earned high praise from grading experts for his coverage skills. Pro Football Focus as recently as 2021 and 2023 graded Fuller a prestigious 80.0 overall. Last year, only eight cornerbacks hit that benchmark.

Things might be slow on the Cowboys free-agency front right now, but if there is any intention to hit the market for extra depth, the cornerback position may be a top reason to do so.

CowboysCountry.com has reported that Dallas might look at help here once we get to training camp.

So file thus away …

Owner and general manager Jerry Jones could consider Fuller – who is ranked as the top cornerback free agent available by Over The Cap – as a smart investment to ease the tensions in Dallas’ secondary.
