CeeDee Lamb on George Pickens “we both 1”

Cowboys star wide receiver CeeDee Lamb shares his thoughts on the Cowboys receiver hierarchy following the acquisition of George Pickens

The Dallas Cowboys have arguably the best one-two punch at receiver in the NFL after trading for former Pittsburgh Steelers wideout George Pickens to complement All-Pro CeeDee Lamb. But with two big-time targets on the outside, which one is the big dog in big D? According to the Cowboys’ first-round selection in the 2020 NFL Draft, they both are.

CeeDee Lamb on Cowboys’ Receiver Hierarchy: “We both 1s”

“We both ones,” Lamb said while standing next to his new teammate at Arizona Cardinals quarterback Kyler Murray’s charity softball event over the weekend. “It ain’t no A B. None of that. You look over there, you see one; you look over here, you see another one. So do what you got to do with that.”

Lamb and Pickens will suit up in the Cowboys’ blue and silver as Dallas kicks off its voluntary OTAs. It’ll be Cowboys fans’ first opportunity to see their new superstar pair of wide receivers in action as they and star quarterback Dak Prescott look to get a feel for each other in Dallas’s new-look offense led by offensive coordinator Klayton Adams.

After being relatively quiet to start the off-season, Dallas made a splash trade by acquiring the Pittsburgh Steelers‘ former second-round pick in exchange for their 2026 third-round pick and a 2027 fifth-round pick. Along with Pickens, Dallas will receive a sixth-round pick in the 2027 NFL Draft from the Steelers.

Individuals throughout the Cowboys organization are amped up about the acquisition of Pickens. One of those individuals is none other than the Cowboys’ star defensive stud, Micah Parsons. After Lamb’s comments made their way to social media, Parsons reposted the interview, adding a little insight of his own to the equation.

Dallas’ Receiver Woes

Dallas has struggled to find a consistent number two wide receiver after trading away now five-time Pro Bowl wide receiver Amari Cooper to the Cleveland Browns in the 2022 offseason. The Cowboys moved the former number four overall pick out of Alabama in the 2015 NFL Draft, acquiring a 2022 fifth-round pick and a sixth-round pick swap from the Browns.

Dallas had high hopes that Michael Gallup would be a solid number two wideout behind Lamb after back-to-back seasons (2020 and 2021) of at least 50 catches, 800 receiving yards, and five receiving touchdowns for the Cowboys. Unfortunately, a calf injury in Dallas’s season opener against Tampa Bay and a torn ACL in their final game against the Cardinals completely derailed his season and the franchise’s hopes of that plan coming to fruition. But now, with Pickens in the clubhouse, Dallas appears to have a solution to their wide receiver No.2 problem.

Lamb and Pickens Through the Years

Lamb has been a terror on the field for Dallas after being selected with the 17th overall pick in the 2020 Draft. The former Oklahoma Sooner and 2019 All-American wide receiver has been consistent on the field, finishing all but his rookie season with 1,000+ yards receiving. And even that season, while playing alongside Cooper, Lamb finished the season just 65 yards short of 1,000.

It has been a completely different story for the early years of Pickens’s career. After Pittsburgh’s 52nd overall pick in the 2022 NFL Draft, he has only gone over 1,000 yards receiving in one of his three seasons. However, the argument can be made that it has little to do with the former Georgia Bulldogs star and more to do with Pittsburgh quarterback woes since the retirement of Super Bowl-winning quarterback Ben Roethlisberger.

In the 2025-26 season, the Dallas Cowboys will look to bounce back from a disappointing last year’s campaign, where they finished the year 7-10, missing the playoffs. With George Pickens and CeeDee Lamb on the outside, the big-play style of offense could be back in big D in a big way. And opposing defenses will have their hands full trying to stop this new one-two, or rather one-one, combination on the outside for the Cowboys this upcoming season.
