Could the Pittsburgh Steelers be right back where they were last year? According to Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk, the San Francisco 49ers still want to trade Brandon Aiyuk, and Pittsburgh again needs a wide receiver.

Aiyuk suffered a torn ACL that ended his season in the first year of a contract averaging over $30 million annually. His long-drawn hold-in a season ago left sour tastes in the mouths of many in the 49ers organization, prompting continued trade talks.

“The 49ers would love to unload Brandon Aiyuk’s contract on the Steelers,” Florio said on Pittsburgh’s 93.7 The Fan.

Aiyuk is being paid handsomely, and the Steelers already have $33 million annually sunken into DK Metcalf as an option. The Steelers were involved in that trade scenario up until the very end. Yet, Aiyuk had a disappointing season after the extension, suffering a torn ACL that would end his season early.

Aiyuk, 27, was a Pro Bowl player before that, however, and the Steelers were hot in pursuit of the star. He spurned the idea at the last second, inking a deal with the 49ers, but with a hole across from Metcalf, Aiyuk is the most expensive option the Steelers could look to acquire.
