Brock Purdy $280 Million Contract With 49ers Predicted

The San Francisco 49ers are trying to forge a contract extension with quarterback Brock Purdy … and now one “expert” thinks he’s got the numbers pegged.

The San Francisco 49ers are working toward a contract extension with quarterback Brock Purdy … and now one “expert” thinks he’s got the numbers pegged.

It’s Pro Football Talk’s Mike Florio recently broke down exactly what he believes the contract structure could look like.

Florio writes all of this with a sort of air of being in the know, when in fact it’s simply educated guesswork.

Additionally, we would note: If Florio’s detailed breakdown prediction – which as he writes would bring the deal’s overall value to $280 million – was so easy and obvious …

Both sides would be hurrying to grab a pen.

In Florio’s view, Purdy is going to end up with a $55.1 million APY on a five-year extension, thus putting him behind only the likes of Dallas Cowboys QB Dak Prescott and Buffalo Bills QB Josh Allen.

And just those numbers and those names right there make this far more complex and controversial than some seem to think.

Purdy is the centerpiece of this franchise’s offense … and of its offseason decision-making process.

The former seventh-round franchise quarterback is 23-13 as a starter and has had plenty of playoff success (a 4-2 record) over his first three years.

But to many, there is a debate about whether the 49ers can decide to get comfortable if he’s a $50 million APY player … let alone a $55.1 million player.

Despite Purdy’s overall success, the 49ers struggled to a 6-11 season last year. Should that count against their starting quarterback? Can he carry a team the way many think a $55.1 million QB must?

The 49ers want to reward and retain the quarterback here. The debate with Purdy about whether you pay over $50 million per year is one issue.

And $55.1 million is another part of the debate altogether.
