Braves vs. Dodgers Rain Delay: Weather Updates, Details, Start Time

It was a really good game, but Yoshinobu Yamamoto proved to be too much for the Atlanta Braves lineup and the Braves fell to the Dodgers 2-1 on Friday evening. There was a bit of a rain delay at the very end of the game, but it didn’t take long to find another window to finish the game. The weather on Saturday may prove to be a bit more complicated.

For those that are unaware, there is inclement weather basically all across the eastern half of the country today and that includes a healthy line of storms rolling into the Atlanta area. With that line of bad weather arriving in metro Atlanta right around game time, everyone erred on the side of common sense and we are in a rain delay.

The starting pitchers aren’t on the field preparing 30 minutes before the scheduled first pitch. So, the start of the game will be delayed. But it seems there’s still confidence they’ll play at some point tonight.

Braves vs. Dodgers Rain Delay, 5/3: Here is when the game is expected to start

Unlike some other games today around the league like Mets-Cardinals which were doomed from the beginning, this game does have a chance of getting played today. Once this relatively narrow band of rain comes through, it is relatively smooth sailing from there. Braves manager Brian Snitker commented on the weather before the game and hopes that the game can get played tonight with tomorrow’s game being a night game.

Hopefully the game happens because no one really wants this series between two powerhouses being decided with a Sunday doubleheader that no one wants to play. Asking Mother Nature to cooperate is a fool’s errand, but this game has a chance at least. When it does happen, it should be a great pitching matchup as rookie phenom Roki Sasaki goes for LA against Spencer Schwellenbach.

**UPDATE: 8:34 PM EST**

The good news is that the Braves just provided an update on the weather. The bad news is that the update didn’t have any new information or an estimated start time. Instead, the weather in the area continues to be updated. If we don’t get a more substantive update in an hour or so, playing this game gets a little dicey.

We continue to monitor the weather and will provide updates as available.

**UPDATE: 8:11 PM EST**

While we don’t have a start time yet, we did just get a hint that the Braves think they can get this game started this evening, but there will be await. An announcement just went out at Truist Park that food and non-alcoholic beverages are getting a steep 40% discount. Seems like Atlanta wants to make sure their fans stick around and keep them happy with a highly anticipated matchup against LA likely to get played tonight.

**UPDATE: 7:57 PM EST**

While we await the start of the game, Braves beat writer Mark Bowman reminded the fans that are irritated this game got delayed before the rain arrived that this is nothing compared to what happened in Washington DC against the Nationals. Still no updates as to when the game will start, but the rain is definitely in metro Atlanta.

A reminder that we once went two hours without rain during a delay in D.C. The threatening clouds were in Iowa tonight. Tonight’s threatening clouds have at least crossed the Cobb County line. https://t.co/3AUPu7yTFR

We will keep this post updated as information comes out as to what the weather is doing and when the game gets started. You may want to get comfortable, though, as this delay could last a while.
