Matt Olson reached a major career milestone during the Braves’ 4-3 win over the Minnesota Twins Saturday night at Truist Park-and did it in fitting fashion.
In the bottom of the first inning, Olson lined a run-scoring double into the gap off Twins opener Justin Topa, knotting the score at 1-1 and notching his 1,000th career hit in the process.
The moment not only helped spark Atlanta’s comeback-it also placed Olson in elite company. 1000.@mattolson21 | #BravesCountrypic.twitter.com/rzT0RhI5xr — Atlanta Braves (@Braves) April 19, 2025
At just 30 years old, Olson became just the 22nd primary first baseman in MLB history to tally at least 260 home runs and 1,000 hits before turning 32.
Among active players, only Dodgers star Freddie Freeman had previously accomplished the feat, placing Olson in rarefied air among his peers.
The milestone speaks to Olson’s consistency, power, and durability across his nine-year career. Olson entered the league in 2016 and didn’t become a full-time starter until 2018, making his statistical pace even more impressive.
His 260 home runs rank among the top five in MLB since the start of 2018, and with his power continuing to play at Truist Park, more milestones could be on the horizon. Another RBI for @mattolson21!#BravesCountrypic.twitter.com/9F17t0C0ov — Atlanta Braves (@Braves) April 20, 2025
The moment helped cap off a strong night for Atlanta, which won consecutive games for the first time all season.
Olson’s early RBI set the tone, and his veteran presence continues to anchor a Braves lineup trying to get back to championship form.
More than just a milestone, it was another reminder of Olson’s quiet dominance.
