Red Sox 10, White Sox 3: They Are Who We Thought They Were

The Red Sox are a better team than the White Sox. For the first time this season, it looked like it tonight. From the jump, the Red Sox took a lead thanks to Trevor Story’s three-run home run. They didn’t look back from there. I’ll go into more detail later, but I didn’t think Hunter Dobbins was overly sharp. At the same time, the defense made the plays they were supposed to for the most part, and the White Sox lineup didn’t punish the mistakes Dobbins made. That’s how it should be against these teams. Good teams should beat bad teams, and that’s how the rest of this series should go.

Three Studs

Trevor Story (3-4, 2 HRs, 6 RBIs)

He hit the ball over the fence twice. Both times, two players were on base. That counts for six runs. That’s a lot.

Rob Refsnyder (3-4)

The guy rakes against lefties. What more can you say?

Hunter Dobbins (6 IP, 3 H, 2 R, 1 ER, 6 K, 0 BB)

Listen, Dobbins threw six innings and allowed two runs. That’s a good start, and he deserves to be in the studs for that. At the same time, he was facing the putrid White Sox lineup, and there were a ton of fastballs over the plate. A better lineup probably does more damage. I don’t want to take away from Dobbins too much. He was called on to make a spot start in the major leagues and pitched two-thirds of a game while allowing just two runs. That’s exactly what he was called upon to do. At the same time, he relied on his fastball a lot, and several were left over the heart of the plate. He did an excellent job tonight, but I’m not ready to rely on Dobbins just yet.

One Dud

Dave O’Brien

I know the game was probably over at this point, but you could stand to get a little more excited for a first career home run. See below:

Play of the Game

How about Carlos Narvaez’s first career home run? I haven’t mentioned that yet.
