Skip Bayless’ latest Patrick Mahomes take is yawn-worthy (but also terrible)

Stop me if you’ve heard this one before but Skip Bayless is taking part in his favorite activity – Badmouthing Patrick Mahomes. The latest slander came on Jubilee’s Surrounded, a series where one person goes up against a group of people with opposite viewpoints as them and drops claims for the others to debate against him or her.

Bayless’ appearance pitted him against 25 sports fans and you can imagine how ridiculous each take from him was. The one that will have Kansas City Chiefs fans up in arms, however, was when Bayless claimed “Patrick Mahomes is dramatically overrated”.

The debater who ends up seated across from Bayless is Chiefs fan Matt Pratt, who, as you can imagine from his “Kansas City Vs. Everybody” hoodie, had no problem going up against the big, bad Bayless.

Bayless, of course, only wants to point to Tom Brady as why he believes Mahomes is overrated. Pratt dives into the 2010 wild card game that Brady lost and performed poorly in. When Bayless points out how Brady’s been to 10 Super Bowls and won seven of them, Pratt is quick to jump on how he lost to Eli Manning twice and never won one without a top-10 defense assisting him.

Bayless brings up the 2018 AFC Championship Game when Mahomes lost to the Patriots in overtime (a sore spot for Chiefs fans no doubt) and Pratt argues that Mahomes never got the ball in overtime. He then pivots to Mahomes’ performance in overtime of Super Bowl LVIII and Bayless eventually gives him that one, stating, “I gave you the one at Las Vegas. That was tremendous because every once in a while, Patrick Mahomes can be really good.”

Skip Bayless dropped a desperately bad take about Patrick Mahomes

At this point, nothing Bayless says about the Chiefs or Mahomes is a surprise to anyone. This is his schtick and hey, give the guy credit, he knows how to get under people’s skin for sure. He loves leaning into the “Hey this guy sucks” angle when the player isn’t just good but great, which Mahomes is.

Mahomes might not have the seven Super Bowls that Brady has but he is on pace to match what the so-called G.O.A.T. did during his career. He’s won three Super Bowls already and has already been to more (five) than Brady had been by the time he was Mahomes’ age. This narrative is going to continue to get shoved down our throats until the end of time more than likely but this just means Mahomes and the Chiefs are doing something right.

If Mahomes wasn’t as good as he is, Bayless probably isn’t wasting his breath on calling him overrated. Also, if three Super Bowl wins before he’s 30 equals overrated, then, okay, weird but do Chiefs fans really care what this guy thinks anymore? We’ll take the Super Bowl wins from our “dramatically overrated” quarterback, thank you very much.
