Rehabbing Red Sox Pitcher Opens Up About ‘Very Annoying’ Situation

Lucas Giolito wasn’t able to storm out of the gate in the 2025 Red Sox season as he surely hoped to.

After missing all of last year due to elbow surgery, the current campaign offers Giolito an opportunity to bounce back and show shades of his former All-Star self. But the right-hander will have to remain patient as he awaits a return to the big leagues, as he’s still working his way back from a hamstring issue suffered at the outset of spring training.

As you can imagine, Giolito was pretty discouraged by the setback.

“It’s just like I’m going through my spring training later, so it’s very annoying,” Giolito told reporters, per The Athletic. “That hamstring I got in the first spring game was like, ‘You got to be kidding me.’ But I’m progressing through, getting my innings and my throws in. I look forward to coming back and helping this team out. Been looking forward to that for a long time. So just got to keep working through these rehab games.”

Giolito is scheduled to make his next Triple-A start Tuesday, and according to The Athletic, the Red Sox likely will want him to log one more outing after that before joining Boston. The 30-year-old’s return will be welcomed, as Boston kicked off the new season dealing with multiple injuries among starters.

But in the meantime, Giolito will continue supporting the Red Sox from afar. He’ll watch Sean Newcomb take the hill Friday when Boston opens a three-game series in Chicago.
