The Atlanta Braves desperately need to find an outfielder after Jurcikson Profar was handed an 80-game suspension for testing positive for PEDs. Profar will also miss the postseason because of this failed drug test.
While Atlanta is set to return Ronald Acuña Jr. in the near future, it’s not going to be enough to keep this team in contention unless it can land another star outfielder.
Jon Conahan of Athlon Sports recently predicted the Braves would swing a blockbuster trade with the Boston Red Sox in order to replace Profar with star Red Sox outfielder Wilyer Abreu.

“During the first eight games of the 2025 campaign, Abreu has been one of the best players in Major League Baseball, slashing .500/.621/.1.000 with three home runs,” Conahan wrote. “For a Red Sox team that doesn’t necessarily need many prospects in return, it might not make much sense to move him. However, the Atlanta Braves could blow them out of the water with an offer due to their current situation in the outfield.”
Abreu has gotten off to a scorching start, so there’s less and less chance the Red Sox decide to trade him as the games go by. But if the Braves can blow away Boston with a huge trade offer, they might be able to land him.
A trade centered around top pitching prospect Hurston Waldrep, as well as Bryce Elder and potentially a lottery ticket position player prospect, could be enough to sway the Red Sox to trade their 25-year-old infielder.
