BREAKING: Latest 49ers, Brock Purdy trade update might prove his haters right

The San Francisco 49ers are trying to extend Brock Purdy. The former last overall pick of the NFL Draft has led the 49ers to two NFC Championship Games and a Super Bowl.

Although the 49ers have found success with Purdy as their quarterback, many believe he is not worthy of an extension that will reach nearly $60 million. There is a belief among some that Purdy is a product of Kyle Shanahan and the talent around him. Last season, when Christian McCaffrey and Brandon Aiyuk were hurt, Purdy showed signs of decline.

There have been rumors about the 49ers potentially trading him while his value is high. However, The Athletic’s Dianna Russini revealed that the 49ers have not been getting calls about Purdy, proving that those around the league believe he is a product of what’s around him.

“If he is a top 10 quarterback with Kyle Shanahan detached from it, how come no teams have called to trade for him?” Russini said on “Scoop City.” “There have not been any teams that have called the 49ers to trade for Brock Purdy. That kind of tells you how the rest of the league views him without Kyle Shanahan.”

The 49ers have some reason for concern. The draft is approaching, and there is no agreement on a contract. Perhaps the team itself is hesitant about making Purdy among the highest-paid players in the league. Usually, if contract negotiations were dragging out, the 49ers would be getting calls on Purdy, but that is seemingly not the case.

The 49ers have lost many key players as they look to cut spending. If Purdy was unable to win with almost all of the team’s money being spent to surround him with talent, why should the team expect him to win when over 20% of the salary cap is going to him?
