Chiefs Invest $53.5M in Jaylon Moore, Kristian Fulton and Elijah Mitchell

The Kansas City Chiefs recently spent $53.5 million on three key players: running back Elijah Mitchell, offensive tackle Jaylon Moore, and cornerback Kristian Fulton.

The first wave of free agency is over, and the Kansas City Chiefs walked away with three major signings: offensive tackle Jaylon Moore, cornerback Kristian Fulton, and running back Elijah Mitchell. After their season ended with a blowout loss to the Philadelphia Eagles in the Super Bowl, these three should help Kansas City in their quest to hoist another Lombardi trophy.

Chiefs Address Biggest Needs With Jaylon Moore, Kristian Fulton, and Elijah Mitchell

Strengthening the Defensive Secondary with Fulton

The Chiefs’ defensive secondary position has long needed a perfect fit. Fulton joined the Chiefs on a two-year deal worth $20 million following a breakout season with the Los Angeles Chargers. The former Tennessee Titan and Los Angeles Charger is an aggressive-minded player with great instincts who is considered a perfect fit for the Chiefs.

He proved himself to be a game-impacting player in the past season, where he accounted for 51 tackles, one interception, and seven defended passes. Fulton is great at reading opposing quarterbacks and disrupting essential routes.

His addition is expected to introduce the much-needed playmaking approach that will impact and make a difference in a tight game. By giving Mahomes more time to perform his magic, Fulton’s addition will mean a better revamp to the Chiefs’ defense.

Enhancing the Backfield with Elijah Mitchell

Also welcomed to the Chiefs backfield is Elijah Mitchell; after his deal with the San Francisco 49ers, Mitchell recently joined the Chiefs on a 1-year deal worth $3.5 million. Despite his limited playing time recently, he had 1,523 rushing yards with about 327 carries at the 49ers.

He’s an exceptional team player, but unfortunately, He missed the entire 2024 season because of a hamstring injury. Other injuries suffered include a sprained right MCL in the first week of the 2022 season, which kept him on the sideline until Week 10. He also suffered another MCL in a game against the New Orleans Saints in November of the same season.

However, he’s expected to add spark and depth to the Chiefs running backs. With limited roster depth, Mitchell should be a key part of the backfield provided he can shake the injury bug.

Solidify the Offensive line  with Jaylon Moore

Jaylon Moore was the first big outside signing the Chiefs made in free agency. He signed a two-year, $30 million deal with the Chiefs. The former 49er spent four seasons in San Francisco, primarily backing up Trent Williams.  Now, he’ll be protecting Patrick Mahomes as the starting left tackle and will play a crucial role in the Chiefs success.

Furthermore, he has earned a reputation for helping with pass protection, which is what this team needs. His agility and solid techniques make him an ideal player to keep defenders at bay and open the running lane for the new signee Mitchell, creating a more balanced and effective offense.

These new signings signify that the Chiefs aren’t relenting but looking forward to a highly competitive season, which makes them a great contender as they anticipate the beginning of the season; the team chemistry will be worth watching out for as the season kicks off.
