Jaguars Are Signing Former Cowboys Offensive Tackle

The Jacksonville Jaguars have already begun overhauling their offense since new head coach Liam Coen took over a few weeks ago by jettisoning a few veterans out of town and angling to build a strong unit around franchise quarterback Trevor Lawrence.

A major part of building a better foundation around Lawrence involves keeping him upright after a second consecutive year he saw his season end early due to injury largely due to average-to-subpar offensive line play.
The Jags moved quickly in free agency to mitigate that issue by signing former Dallas Cowboys offensive tackle Chuma Edoga.

Edoga started ten games for the Cowboys over the past two seasons and will now have a chance to carve out a larger role for himself in Jacksonville.
He previously spent three seasons with the New York Jets and one year with the Atlanta Falcons prior to joining the Cowboys, and injuries are one of the main reasons why he hasn’t been a more consistent and stable force in any of these organizations’ offensive lines.
Edoga injured his toe in preseason last year and wasn’t activated until late November, while his lone season with the Falcons was cut short after just two games.
He’ll look to put all that behind him in Jacksonville coming off a solid two years in Dallas where he primarily saw time at guard, though he played tackle for most of his career up to that point.
Jacksonville also signed former Baltimore Ravens offensive lineman Patrick Mekari on Monday, who also has experience playing multiple spots along the line.
There’s not a clear path to being a full-time starter for Edoga at the moment, but it’s clear with these two signings that Coen values versatility, which is a trait that should certainly help Edoga get on the field and see more snaps.
