𝗕𝗿𝗲𝗮𝗸𝗶𝗻𝗴: The Commanders and Texans have had significant interest in trading for 49ers WR Deebo Samuel

Report: Commanders, Texans showing interest in 49ers' Samuel | theScore.com

The Washington Commanders and Houston Texans have shown significant interest in acquiring San Francisco 49ers wideout Deebo Samuel, sources told Jordan Schultz of Fox Sports.

The Pittsburgh Steelers and Denver Broncos have also checked in with the 49ers about Samuel, Schultz adds.

San Francisco granted Samuel permission to seek a trade earlier this offseason. The 29-year-old requested to be dealt during his end-of-season exit meeting, according to head coach Kyle Shanahan.

The Commanders’ wide receiver corps is headlined by Terry McLaurin, who made his first career All-Pro team in 2024. Washington also rosters wideouts Dyami Brown, Olamide Zaccheaus, and Luke McCaffrey, among others.

Meanwhile, Nico Collins, Stefon Diggs, and Tank Dell led the Texans’ wide receiver depth chart last season. Dell suffered a gruesome injury late in the year, tearing three ligaments in his knee. It’s unclear whether Dell will be able to play in the 2025 season, while Diggs is set to enter free agency after one year in Houston in which he tore his ACL in late October.

Samuel had a disappointing 2024 campaign, his sixth in San Francisco. He tallied 806 scrimmage yards and four total touchdowns, both significant drops from the year prior.

49ers tight end George Kittle recently said the team “can’t really replace Deebo” given the wideout’s unique skill set as a runner and receiver.
