New York Yankees Announce Roster Move After Aaron Judge News

While Spring Training is right around the corner, it’s dead quiet in the MLB offseason right now. However, Wednesday ended up being a very big day for New York Yankees superstar outfielder Aaron Judge after he announced some big news on social media. The past few months have been big for Judge for a couple of reasons. On the field, he helped the Yanks return to the World Series, where they lost in five games to the Los Angeles Dodgers. Off the field, his wife, Samantha, was pregnant with their first child, and the star outfielder revealed she gave birth on Jan. 27.

“1/27/25 Nora Rose Judge. What an incredible week it’s been, can’t wait for the memories the three of us make,” Judge shared in a post on Instagram. New York and their fanbase is undoubtedly thrilled for Judge after this revelation. The work doesn’t stop for the front office, though, as they announced that they had claimed former Kansas City Royals infielder Braden Shewmake off of waivers shortly after Judge’s news.

“Earlier today, the Yankees claimed INF Braden Shewmake off waivers from the Kansas City Royals,” the Yankees announced in a post on X, formerly known as Twitter. Earlier today, the Yankees claimed INF Braden Shewmake off waivers from the Kansas City Royals.

— New York Yankees (@Yankees) February 5, 2025 Shewmake briefly made his MLB debut with the Atlanta Braves in 2023, before playing 29 games with the Chicago White Sox in 2024. His numbers weren’t particularly good, as he hit just .125 with one home run and four runs batted in. After getting designated for assignment on New Year’s Day, the Royals claimed him on Jan. 8.

His stint in KC didn’t last long, as Shewmake got designated for assignment on Jan. 31 before latching on with the Yankees. With an ability to fill in at several spots in the infield, and some speed on the basepaths, Shewmake could serve as a utility option off the bench if he finds a way to stick around with the organization.
