The Chicago Cubs are off to a hot start, and just had another win after Alex Bregman drove in three runs to help them overcome the San Diego Padres 5-4. Manager Craig Counsell dismissed the idea that Bregman is the sole reason for it and instead discussed other factors in the change in the offense, according to Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic.

“We have not had a meeting and said swing less, by any stretch of the imagination. If there’s one guy that trumpets swing less, it’s Bregman. Are guys hearing it? I don’t know if I have a good answer. We have some established people who aren’t changing too much,” Counsell told Rosenthal.

For clarity, the Cubs currently rank third in batting average and runs, first in on-base percentage, and fourth in home runs and slugging percentage. Additionally, they are last in swing rate inside the zone, highlighting their patience at the plate. Bregman has always been a patient hitter. Now, it seems like the rest of the Cubs have followed suit.

While the Cubs’ pitching has struggled with injuries, the offense has been excellent. Rookie Moises Ballesteros has been hot in his first season in the league, and that has also been a major reason for their success. With the Cubs sitting at 19-12 and second in the NL Central, things are going well on the north side of Chicago.

They have gone 12-3 over their past 15 games, including a stretch of 10 wins in a row. Now, they hope to continue their success in a three-game series with the Arizona Diamondbacks.
