The Kansas City Chiefs defeated the Houston Texans 23-14 on Saturday in the Divisional Round of the NFL playoffs. Quarterback Patrick Mahomes played decent, but not up to his usual standards, completing 16-of-25 passes for 177 yards, one touchdown and zero interceptions. However, that touchdown was highlight-worthy as it was an 11-yard pass to tight end Travis Kelce that he barely got off while also being tackled from behind by defensive tackle Mario Edwards Jr.
It was impressive enough for the NFL to post a new video of Mahomes celebrating it, captioned “@PatrickMahomes was fired up after that diving touchdown catch.” .@PatrickMahomes was fired up after that diving touchdown catch pic.twitter.com/tEuiPu7i1W — NFL (@NFL) January 21, 2025 The post has been met with many different reactions, from Chiefs fans in awe to others who are clearly less loving of Kansas City and theorize that they benefited greatly from officials. “This guy never ceases to amaze me! Unreal talent,” said one comment.
“It’s a shame the flopping and penalties prevent so many of us from appreciating this kind of greatness smh,” a second said “Patrick Mahomes bringing the energy as always,” said another. “Can’t believe people claim this guy is overrated” a fourth added. A fifth stated, “It is a fantastic play only made possible by another ridiculous drive extending penalty.”
“The future GOAT,” another continued. The Chiefs will now be tested, though, when they face the Buffalo Bills in the AFC Championship. The Bills gave the Chiefs their first loss of the season in Week 11. If they win, it will be their fifth Super Bowl appearance since Mahomes took over as the starter in 2018.
