Proposed Red Sox trade would see team flip slugger first baseman for $450 million dollar superstar | Sporting News

The Boston Red Sox are looking for a right-handed hitter, and as the next season is starting to loom, they need to find one fast. The Sox have considered trades and signings, but this particular trade could work, and it doesn’t seem like they’ve tried at all to do it. Proposed by Hannah Filippo of Fansided, the Sox would trade for Toronto Blue Jays superstar slugger Vladimir Guerrero Jr. The trade would look like this:

Red Sox get: Vladimir Guerrero Jr.

Blue Jays get: Triston Casas, prospects TBD

Last season, Guerrero was a beast. He hit .323/.396/.544/.940 with 44 doubles and 30 home runs. He also earned his fourth All-Star nod, and his second Silver Slugger.

Giving up Casas would hurt, but Guerrero is a proven first baseman, earning a Gold Glove in 2022. He should play the field.

Will the Sox go for this trade? Probably not, but for reasons unsuspecting. The Sox would want to keep Casas, and probably put Guerrero at third and move Rafael Devers to DH. In that case, they would bide their time and sign Guerrero as a free agent next offseason. Guerrero has expressed he wants to play in Boston, so it should be a done deal.
