Here’s a full breakdown of Walker Buehler’s new contract with the Red Sox | Sporting News

The Boston Red Sox have made some key moves to improve their roster for the 2025 MLB season early this offseason, including signing former Los Angeles Dodgers hurler Walker Buehler.

Nearly a week after the deal was initially reported, the Red Sox officially announced the signing on Sunday, and MassLive’s Chris Cotillo reported the details of the contract.

The deal, which was originally reported as one year at $21.05 million is a bit more interesting than that. It includes a $3.05 million signing bonus, a $15 million base salary and a $25 million mutual option for the 2026 season with a $3 million buyout. He also gets a $500,000 bonus for every two starts between his 20th and 28th starts in 2025.

The 30-year-old had a rough year in 2024, posting a 5.38 ERA, 1.553 WHIP and 7.6 K/9 in just 16 starts after returning from Tommy John. He did help Los Angeles win the World Series with a 3.60 ERA, 1.133 WHIP and 7.8 K/9 in 15 postseason innings.

Boston is hoping that he has a bounce-back year in 2025, but if he does, he probably won’t be interested in returning on the option for 2026.
