Former NFL star Richard Sherman has given his take on what needs to change for his former team, the San Francisco 49ers, following their disappointing 29-17 loss to the Miami Dolphins. Sherman, never one to shy away from offering blunt analysis, believes the 49ers’ offensive line is the biggest issue and must be prioritized in the offseason.
In a recent episode of the “Richard Sherman Podcast,” Sherman criticized the poor performance of the 49ers’ offensive line, which allowed three sacks and left quarterback Brock Purdy under constant pressure throughout the game. “That offensive line needs to be the number one, number two, and number three priority this offseason,” Sherman said.

Sherman also mentioned that without the presence of standout left tackle Trent Williams, the O-line struggles have become even more glaring. Sherman urged the team to focus on adding a right tackle, which he called an immediate need.
“You need a right tackle. No ifs, ands, or buts, no discussion, no nothing,” he said. Sherman also suggested that the 49ers should consider drafting a center in the 2025 NFL Draft, perhaps in the second round, and adding a guard through free agency. While Sherman acknowledged that the team might not draft an entire offensive line, he stressed that bolstering the line is critical for the 49ers’ success moving forward.
As the 49ers head into the offseason, it remains to be seen whether they will take Sherman’s advice to heart. However, it’s clear that addressing the O-line will be a key factor in any potential success for the team in the future.
