“I had one of the worst draft meetings of all time,” Gronk shared on today’s episode of “Spittin’ Chiclets” with Paul Bissonnette and Ryan Whitney. “It was actually my last meeting as well. And I was sick of that s***, bro.”
Prior to his meeting with the New England Patriots, the tight end had met with 15 other teams in a span of 17 days and 15 flights. Tired of the traveling and meetings, Gronk was done “putting on a show.” For his final meeting, Gronkowski treated it like pulling up to a party at the U-of-A.
“I first fall asleep on a table, right in front of one of the highest members of the team,” Gronk said. “I needed a nap, it wasn’t like it was a meeting or anything.”
Then the former Wildcat entered the meeting room with former offensive coordinator Bill O’Brien.
“I remember Billy O, he’s like ‘Do you even remember coming home from parties in college?’ I was like ‘Absolutely not!'”

O’Brien attempted to test Gronk’s football IQ. After drawing up a play and erasing it on a board, O’Brien wanted Gronk to write the play back. Instead Gronk admitted he didn’t remember the play and that it was “too difficult” for him.
“I was over the whole process, but I go ‘Draw up a play and throw me the ball, I guarantee I catch it and make some yards,'” Gronk recounted. “I was just being myself like that. I left and was like “Yo, this team either hates me and they crossed me off the board or they love me.'”
Turns out they loved Gronk. The Patriots agreed on a draft day trade with the Oakland Raiders, which gave them the 42nd overall pick (second round) in the 2010 NFL Draft. History was made — three Super Bowls, five Pro Bowls, four First-team All-Pro’s, and NFL Comeback player of the Year in his nine years with the Patriots.
Unfortunately Gronk couldn’t have this moment of glory. After the clip went viral Tom Brady made sure to point out that the Pats did not love Gronk’s antics.
