The Los Angeles Dodgers and right-hander Matt Sauer have agreed to a minor league deal, according to Kiley McDaniel of ESPN.
The deal includes an invite to major league spring training.
Last offseason, the Kansas City Royals used the second pick of the Rule 5 draft to pluck Sauer, 25, from the Yankees farm system. He made his major league debut in 2024 with the Royals but let up 14 earned runs over 16 1/3 innings with 11 walks and nine strikeouts. Kansas City returned him to the Yankees in May.
He was first sent to Triple-A before he was sent down to Double-A, finishing the 2024 season with the Somerset Patriots. There, he put up a 2.63 ERA over 24 innings in 17 relief appearances. He elected free agency after the season.
In August 2022, Sauer racked up a Patriots’ franchise record 17 strikeouts working eight innings for Somerset in a 4-3, 10-inning home loss to New Hampshire.
