He might be onto something.

Even in the middle of the offseason, there’s never a quiet moment for the Dallas Cowboys. After wrapping up a thrilling NFL Draft, Jerry Jones and his team have been the subject of plenty of speculation from the national media.
Despite the projected impact of their rookie class, the Cowboys still have needs to fill, especially on defense. Dave Helman of The Athletic Football Show has an answer for one of the biggest remaining issues: He believes that Dallas should explore a trade for Miami Dolphins linebacker Jordyn Brooks.
“The Cowboys traded for Dee Winters during the draft, but by no means is their linebacker depth chart good even still. If I was Dallas, I’d still be calling the Dolphins about that and being like, ‘You really won’t take a (Round) three (pick) for a guy who’s not gonna be there when you’re ready to contend? Come on.’ That’s my pet cause of the summer.”
Dallas Cowboys could make splash Jordyn Brooks trade nobody sees coming
There’s no hiding it. The Cowboys are trying to pry open their championship window this offseason. After a mid-season trade for Quinnen Williams, they’ve franchise tagged George Pickens and traded up in the draft to get Caleb Downs. They might as well push all of their chips into the center of the table by swinging a deal for Miami’s star linebacker.
Brooks may not be a household name in the NFL, but he’s been one of the best linebackers in the league over the last few seasons. He earned first-team All-Pro honors in 2025 after amassing 183 total tackles and 3.5 sacks for Miami.
As good as he is, the Dolphins could be willing to part ways with the 28-year-old. They already traded away Jaylen Waddle and let go of stars like Tyreek Hill this offseason. Brooks is the best player on Miami’s defense, but second-round pick Jacob Rodriguez could take his place.
They’re clearly in the early stages of a full-scale rebuild, so why not move on from a player whose value is higher than it will ever be? The Cowboys may be hesitant to give up a top-100 pick, especially considering that they’re missing their own first-rounder next year due to the Williams trade.
But if this is supposed to be their year to be competitive, Winters likely isn’t enough at linebacker next to DeMarvion Overshown. As crazy as it may be, this is a trade that Dallas should consider.
