In the midst of what has been a quiet offseason for the Braves, Atlanta made a somewhat relevant addition to their outfield depth. The Braves signed former Marlins and Pirates outfielder Bryan De La Cruz to a non-guaranteed, one-year deal on Sunday. The nature of the deal, along with De La Cruz having minor league options remaining, points to him being viewed as organization outfield depth with the opportunity to become something more in Spring Training.
De La Cruz had some encouraging expected batted ball metrics as recently as 2022, but since then, he has struggled quite a bit at the plate. Perhaps the Braves could work their magic once again and De La Cruz could be a contributor to start the 2025 season as the team awaits the return of Ronald Acuna Jr. However, it seems the Braves will likely continue to pursue a more reliable outfield option as the offseason progresses.

The 2024 season review series continues with Sean Murphy. When it comes to internal improvements in 2025 compared to 2024, Murphy returning to his previous All-Star level form would be a great development for Atlanta’s success next season.
