If the Boston Red Sox are to make a meaningful trade this year, Jarren Duran continues to emerge as a strong candidate.

Per ESPN’s David Schoenfield, Jarren Duran might be the top trade candidate on the Red Sox roster:

“Duran is also scuffling, and the episode last week, when he flipped off a heckler, points to his frustration. Duran is a good player with a lot of trade value because he’s under team control through 2028, but if the infielders don’t start hitting, the Red Sox will have to consider a roster realignment.”

It’s still too early to be thinking about trades, but Boston may want to consider trading one of their outfielders for some much-needed infield help.

Red Sox Trade Idea Swaps Jarren Duran for Phillies’ Alec Bohm

Per Heavy on Sports, this hypothetical trade idea would swap Phillies’ Alec Bohm and outfielder Jarren Duran in a blockbuster mid-season trade, which, if you follow the Red Sox, is not an uncommon thing to happen (Rafael Devers trade last May).

Shoenfield also notes that Alec Bohm could be a top trade candidate for the Phillies this summer:

“This is another situation with some moving parts. Bohm has been the Phillies’ third baseman since 2020, but he’s heading into free agency and is off to a slow start. (He’s also in an ongoing lawsuit against his parents alleging that they mismanaged his finances, as well as fired his agent, Scott Boras.) Meanwhile, top prospect Aidan Miller is waiting in the wings, except he hasn’t played in the minors because of a back injury.”

This trade idea would, at least marginally, help the Red Sox infielder while offloading Jarren Duran while he’s struggling. Both Duran and Bohm are struggling to start this season, which makes this a fair value. If anything, the Phillies could throw in a mid-tier prospect to help complete a deal for Duran.

Who Does this Trade Idea Benefit?

Honestly, this hypothetical trade idea benefits the Philadelphia Phillies a little bit more than the Red Sox, just because Duran has more extra-base hit upside, as Alec Bohm isn’t much of a power hitter, and if he doesn’t hit for a high batting average (which he isn’t this season) than his value is decreased.

However, the Red Sox’s infield is so unproductive right now that adding anyone might be an upgrade, and Bohm is a former All-Star at least.

Another aspect of this trade that would benefit the Phillies is the fact that Duran is controllable for a few more years, whereas Alec Bohm is set to hit free agency after season’s end.
