🚨 A HEARTBREAKING SETBACK: Red Sox’s Triston Casas Faces Major Injury Blow — Will This Crushing News Derail Boston’s Hopes for a Strong Season? 👇

The Boston Red Sox got a bit of bad news on Wednesday around young slugger Triston Casas.

Casas, who has been working his way back after rupturing his left patellar tendon in 2025, suffered a “setback” in his recovery and now will be shut down from hitting for “a while,” according to Red Sox manager Alex Cora and transcribed by MassLive.com’s Christopher Smith.

“Triston Casas has had a setback,” Cora said, as transcribed by Smith. “Sore ribs. So they kind of like shut down the hitting thing for a while. I think it’s the right side. I’ll give you guys more details on Friday, but it just happened a few days ago. So we have to slow it down. Nothing related to the knee. He’s doing well but this happened swinging, so we have to shut him down swinging-wise for I don’t know how long.”

If you’re a Red Sox fan, this certainly isn’t the update that you wanted to see right now. The season hasn’t gone as planned for Boston. The Red Sox are 1-5 and are in last place in the American League East. Also, it’s going to take even longer for Boston to get its young slugger back into the fold.

MassLive.com’s Chris Cotillo shared back in March that Casas could be back around June 1. As of writing, it’s unclear if this update from Boston will push that timeline back. He didn’t play in any games for Boston in Spring Training or start a minor league rehab assignment yet, so there are a lot of hoops to jump through before he is ready for big league action. Spring Training alone is roughly one month of games for guys as they get their timing right. You’d have to think that when Casas is ready to play, it will take at least that long to play games before actually being ready for the majors.

It’s unfortunate because there also was a positive update about Casas earlier in the week. Tim Healey of The Boston Globe reported that Casas had begun sliding, which is a big step after hurting his knee.

It’s fortunate that Cora noted that this setback has nothing to do with his knee, but it’s just more bad luck for the young slugger. Hopefully, it’s a short setback and he’s able to get back on track with his rehab in the very near future
