The Miami Dolphins are in desperate need of cornerback help, and the NFL Draft could provide them with at least one option, if not more. One potential prospect may slide into the second round after a private workout resulted in him leaving the field.

A.J. Terrell is expected to be taken in the first round of next month’s draft. After sitting out the Clemson Pro Day due to a hamstring issue, Terrell held a private workout on Monday. Unfortunately, things didn’t go according to plan.

Potential Miami Dolphins Draft Target A.J. Terrell Aggravates Hamstring Injury

Terrell was unable to record a 40-yard dash time due to the hamstring issue. Known for his blend of quickness and athleticism, the Clemson corner has been consistently listed as one of the top cornerbacks in this year’s class. However, without testing numbers, his stock could be impacted.

Jon-Eric Sullivan has repeatedly mentioned that injury histories will be taken into account. A hamstring injury isn’t catastrophic, and Terrell should heal just fine, but should there be cause for mild concern?

Soft-tissue injuries have been a plague for the Dolphins for over a decade. Fans often wonder whether the training staff should be replaced. Bringing in a player with an existing injury could be problematic.

Miami needs to be cautious with its draft picks, especially in the first round. While Terrell won’t be removed from their board, selecting him with the 30th overall pick might be too much of a risk if he falls that far.

The Dolphins have also been linked to LSU’s Mansoor Delane, and many believe Jermod McCoy could be another option. McCoy could have been the top cornerback in this year’s class if not for tearing his ACL in early January 2025, forcing him to miss the entire season.

There’s a lot to like about Terrell. He can play on the boundary or in the slot. He has a football mentality and plays bigger than his smallish frame. He does need to improve in several areas, especially in run support, where he struggles against physical runners.

Miami will be looking at cornerbacks with their first three draft picks. If Delane is off the board, they will likely shift their focus to another position. The prospects expected to go in the second round are solid, so the drop-off isn’t significant, which works in Terrell’s favor considering his injury situation.

There’s enough tape to not scare off many teams, but while his eagerness to improve his draft status is commendable, it may have unintentionally hurt it instead.
