The Buffalo Bills signed Bradley Chubb to add a bona fide pass rusher, and the team may not be done.
Buffalo has struggled to get after the quarterback in critical moments, and the team let AJ Epenesa walk this offseason. So, Bills analyst Randy Gurzi of SI urges the team to make a bold move to acquire Kayvon Thibodeaux from the New York Giants for a third-round pick.
“The New York Giants added Abdul Carter in the 2025 NFL draft to pair with Brian Burns,” Gurzi wrote. “That leaves former fifth overall pick Kayvon Thibodeaux as the odd man out. Thibodeaux is coming off an injury-shortened campaign and hasn’t lived up to his draft status.
“He’s been the subject of trade rumors. While a fourth-round pick has been floated as a potential asking price, Buffalo might need to send a third since they’re expected to be drafting late. That might seem like a high price. But Thibodeaux would give them plenty of depth on the edge. And he would be highly motivated to earn a new contract.”
The Giants selected Thibodeaux fifth overall in 2022 to bolster the Giants’ pass rush, but he hasn’t lived up to expectations. So, perhaps a change of scenery will help him, and he can be a rotational player in Buffalo.
Thibodeaux recorded just 2.5 sacks last season. His best year came in 2023 when he recorded 11.5 sacks.
Giants Open to Trading Thibodeaux
When New York selected Thibodeaux out of Oregon, the hope was that he would be a dominant pass rusher for the team for years.
However, Thibodeaux has struggled to be the dominant pass rusher that the team expected, and his name has come up in trade rumors. Giants insider Connor Hughes of SNY reported at the combine that New York is listening to offers on the former fifth overall pick.
“Kayvon Thibodeaux, per sources, is a player the Giants are listening to offers on and the belief from teams here at the combine is that he will eventually get dealt,” Hughes wrote on X. “I do not get the same sentiment on Dexter Lawrence. This staff loves him and wants him.”
Whether or not the Giants will end up trading Thibodeaux is uncertain, but if they do, it could very well happen at the NFL Draft.
Bills Plan to Have Aggressive Defense
Buffalo trading for Thibodeaux would be an intriguing move, but it fits the goal of defensive coordinator Jim Leonhard.
Leonhard is a first-year defensive coordinator in the NFL, but he has experience at college. So, ahead of his first season, he said he wants the Bills’ defense to be aggressive and attack offenses.
“We’re going to be an attacking defense up front and in the back end,” Leonhard said. “We’re going to attack the football. The biggest stat in football is turnovers. So we’re going to be aggressive, we’re going to fly around, we’re going to communicate, we’re going to play well together, but we’re going to cause issues for offense, and we’re going to force them to react to us. …
“We’re going to be aggressive, we’re not going to be reckless. There’s a right and a wrong way in my opinion on how to attack quarterbacks in the NFL and it changes a little bit week to week based on their skill set …You have to try to change the comfort level of that quarterback, you got to be able to speed him up, you got to be able to slow him down.”
So far this offseason, the Bills have added Chubb, Dee Alford, CJ Gardner-Johnson, and Geno Stone to bolster the defense.
