On Thursday afternoon, the Boston Red Sox will open up their 2026 regular season when they visit the Cincinnati Reds in Ohio.
The Red Sox have made a lot of roster moves to get ready for Opening Day.

According to Brendan Campbell of bloggingtheredsox.com, the Red Sox have released Brendan Rodgers ahead of the new season.
Campbell wrote: “The Red Sox have released veteran infielder Brendan Rodgers, who was in camp as a non-roster invite this spring before suffering a right shoulder injury earlier this month that ultimately required surgery.”
Rodgers is coming off a year where he appeared in 43 games for the Houston Astros.
He batted .191 with two home runs, 11 RBI’s and 12 runs.

Rodgers was picked third in the 2015 MLB Draft.
Before the Astros, he had spent the first six years of his career playing for the Colorado Rockies.
In 2022, he batted .266 with 13 home runs, 63 RBI’s and 72 runs in 137 games.

At 29, he could still be a good pickup for another MLB team (once he gets healthy).
Over 495 games, Rodgers has batted .261 with 47 home runs, 208 RBI’s and 230 runs.
Chris Cotillo of MassLive wrote (on March 17): “Update: Red Sox non-roster invitee Brendan Rodgers underwent right shoulder labral revision surgery, performed by Dr. Neal ElAttrache. He was back in camp today in a brace.”

Following the Reds, the Red Sox will remain on the road for a series with the Houston Astros that starts on March 30.
They will then return home to host the San Diego Padres.
