The Dallas Cowboys’ 2026 offseason has been quieter than Jerry Jones promised, but that’s all about to change — because a legitimate offensive game-changer is sliding into Big D’s lap in the draft, and his name is John Michael Gyllenborg.
Bleacher Report’s Alex Ballentine just dropped the perfect scouting report for Dallas, naming the Wyoming tight end as the Cowboys’ ideal “gem” target. And once you see the tape and the measurables, you’ll understand why the entire NFC East should be sweating right now.
At 6-foot-5 and 250 pounds, Gyllenborg is a physical freak who just put up 80 receptions for 1,023 yards and 7 touchdowns over his four-year career at Wyoming. That’s not just production — that’s “I’m about to torture linebackers and safeties every Sunday” production.
Here’s the beauty for Dak Prescott: Dallas already has Jake Ferguson locked in as the in-line tight end. What they DON’T have is a true move tight end who can line up in the slot, stretch the field vertically, and create mismatches in 12 personnel. Gyllenborg is exactly that guy.

NFL.com draft analyst Lance Zierlein broke it down perfectly:
“An athletic move tight end, Gyllenborg has the traits to be picked on Day 3… He has the potential to attack defenses vertically from the slot… Gyllenborg’s upside might be worth a swing.”
Translation: late-round steal with legitimate starter upside.
Zierlein does note some inconsistencies in route-running and catch consistency, plus he’s better blocking in space than inline. But at the projected price (Day 3 or even Mr. Irrelevant range), the risk is microscopic and the reward is massive. This is the exact type of high-upside, low-cost swing the Cowboys have been missing.
Let’s be real — the Cowboys’ offseason moves so far have been… fine. They landed Rashan Gary from Green Bay for a 2027 fourth-rounder (solid), signed safety Jalen Thompson to a three-year, $33 million deal, brought back Sam Williams on a one-year deal, and added depth with Otito Ogbonnia, P.J. Locke, and backup QB Sam Howell.
But none of those moves scream “Super Bowl window is NOW.”
Adding Gyllenborg does.
Imagine 12 personnel with Ferguson inline and Gyllenborg flexing out wide or in the slot. Dak suddenly has a 6’5″ matchup nightmare who can run past linebackers and bully smaller safeties. The Cowboys’ offense, already loaded with CeeDee Lamb and (hopefully) a healthy group of playmakers, instantly becomes more explosive and unpredictable.
The NFC East is already stacked — the Eagles, Giants, and Commanders aren’t going to hand Dallas anything. But when you give Dak Prescott a new 1,000-yard receiving threat who moves like a wide receiver but blocks like a tight end? The division balance just shifted.
Jerry Jones loves splash. He loves home-run picks. And a 6’5″, 250-pound Wyoming tight end who can actually play? That’s the kind of sneaky-smart, high-ceiling addition that turns “maybe contender” into “they’re coming for the division title.”
The 2026 NFL Draft hasn’t even started yet, but the buzz is real: John Michael Gyllenborg is the name Cowboys fans are about to fall in love with.
Dak just got his new weapon. The NFC East has officially been put on notice. Buckle up, Dallas — this one’s gonna be fun.
