He’s under club control for a few more years, but with their infield logjam, moving on from Paredes makes the most sense. And there surely would be one team willing to spend an appropriate compensation to land him.
With such a trade possibility in play, Zachary D. Rymer of Bleacher Report pitched a trade idea that would send Paredes to the Milwaukee Brewers for two players: a 2.16 ERA lefty reliever and a career .254 average left-handed hitting outfielder.
Astros trade idea sends Paredes to Brewers for 2 players
“Trade Proposal: Milwaukee Brewers get 3B Isaac Paredes; Houston Astrosget OF Garrett Mithcell, LHP Aaron Ashby,” Rymer proposes.
This two-player return for the Astros would be a solid one. Ashby is the headliner, as the lefty reliever is just 27 years old and coming off a 2.16 ERA season for the Brewers. He is under club control through the 2028 season.
With some concern about Josh Hader entering the 2026 MLB season, Ashby would be a great insurance reliever at worst for the Astros, and if needed, he could be their closer as well.
Mitchell is an interesting addition in this deal as well. He’s a 27-year-old outfielder with club control through the 2028 season, just like Ashby.
He is coming off a worse 2025, however, as he hit .206 with a .580 OPS in 25 games for the Brewers last year. His 2024 season, a 2.0 bWAR across 69 games thanks to a .255 average and .812 OPS, is reason for optimism.
With the Astros having a clear need for more left-handed hitting batters, especially in the outfield, Mitchell would be a great trade pickup for Houston.
Landing Ashby and Mitchell for Paredes wouldn’t be a terrible return for Houston. If they don’t trade him, the Astros’ infield logjam will be a wasted resource.
Instead, if they make this trade happen, the Astros would be getting a solid outfield depth piece in Mitchell and a high-upside lefty reliever in Ashby for the next three years. That’s a solid deal for the Astros if Rymer’s prediction were to come true.
