Red Sox Eyeing Major Trade with Mets Involving Jarren Duran

The Boston Red Sox are making waves in the trade rumor mill, but not as buyers-this time, they’re potential sellers. With a crowded outfield, the team might part ways with one of their promising talents, Jarren Duran or Wilyer Abreu.

Kerry Miller from Bleacher Report has predicted an intriguing move: the Red Sox could send Duran to the New York Mets in exchange for two key infielders. This deal would see the Red Sox acquiring Mark Vientos and Brett Baty, both of whom could slot into the second and third base positions, respectively.

As the 2026 MLB season kicks off, Boston is placing its hopes on young talents Marcelo Mayer and Caleb Durbin to hold down those infield spots. However, the unpredictability of their performance could prompt the Red Sox to seek reinforcements, especially with a contending season on the horizon.

This potential trade offers a strategic solution. Vientos, known for his power, showcased his abilities with 27 home runs in 2024, despite a dip in 2025. Meanwhile, Baty brings a solid .748 OPS, 18 homers, and a .254 batting average from his 2025 season with the Mets, along with reliable defense at both infield positions.

The proposed trade hinges on the performance or health of Boston’s current infielders. If struggles or injuries arise, bringing in Vientos and Baty could be a game-changer, easing the outfield congestion while bolstering the infield. While losing Duran would be a tough pill to swallow, the infield upgrade could be a significant win for the Red Sox.
