Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones has spoken highly of quarterback Joe Milton.

The Dallas Cowboys and Jerry Jones have a lot of work to do throughout the 2026 NFL offseason in order to get the team back to being a legitimate Super Bowl contender.

With that being said, the Cowboys are expected to be very aggressive this offseason. Jones also recently spoke out and stated that Dallas is going to spend big in free agency.

“I would bet that we will spend more money in free agency than we have,” Jones said.

“I really can’t accept just the thought of winning one Super Bowl and then what? I’ve got more time on my clock than that in my mind. And so I don’t see it that way. I see a chance to put a team together and basically be knocking at the edge and get another one or get a chance at a another one.”

Keeping that in mind, the Cowboys badly need to improve on the defensive side of the football. They need a better pass rush, they need more help in the secondary, and they could use an upgrade at linebacker as well.

One intriguing free agency target has been named as a player Dallas should target.

Dallas Cowboys Urged to Consider Making $9.5 Million Move

Yardbarker’s Eric Smithling has suggested that New Orleans Saints free agent linebacker Demario Davis should be a target for the Cowboys this offseason.

“Davis would help fix that problem. NFL Pro noted in November 2025 that the 14-year veteran, 37, led linebackers with 15 run stuffs through Week 13, with several coming in short-yardage situations,” Smithling wrote.

“He finished the season with 10 tackles on third or fourth-and-short run plays, and New Orleans tied for the third-fewest yards allowed per play (2.2) in those situations.”

Davis is coming off of a 2025 NFL season with the Saints that saw him play in all 17 regular season games. He racked up 143 total tackles to go along with 0.5 sacks, two forced fumbles, a fumble recovery, and three defended passes.

At 37 years old, Davis is still a capable player and leader. Throughout his entire 14-year NFL career, he has totaled 1,537 tackles, 45 sacks, six forced fumbles, nine fumble recoveries, four interceptions, and 61 defended passes.

What Would It Take for the Cowboys to Sign Demario Davis?

Spotrac has taken a look at Davis’ projected market value this offseason in free agency. He’s expected to command a deal worth around $9.5 million per season.

Landing Davis would not be a long-term option for Dallas. As previously mentioned, he is 37 years old and is in the final stretch of his NFL career. However, he could be an excellent short-term dadition.

If the Cowboys want to bring in a player who could raise their ceiling in 2026 and possibly 2027, Davis would be the right guy to target in free agency.

Only time will tell what Dallas decides to do this offseason. Jones has made it clear that he wants to win another Super Bowl. If he’s willing to go all-in, Davis would be well worth considering when free agency opens up.
