The 2026 World Baseball Classic is shaping up to be a thrilling spectacle, especially for fans of the Chicago Cubs. With several Cubs players participating, there’s plenty of excitement to go around.

Seiya Suzuki is set to patrol center field for Team Japan, a strategic move to optimize their lineup. However, the buzz among Cubs fans is firmly centered on Team USA, featuring talents like Alex Bregman, Matthew Boyd, and the promising Pete Crow-Armstrong.

Bregman has naturally stepped into a leadership role for Team USA. When Corbin Carroll of the Arizona Diamondbacks suffered a hand injury, Bregman advocated for Boston Red Sox outfielder Roman Anthony as his replacement-a testament to his influence and experience.

Team USA is packed with stars. The pitching rotation boasts names like Paul Skenes and Tarik Skubal, while the lineup includes heavy hitters such as Aaron Judge, Cal Raleigh, and Kyle Schwarber.

Carroll’s injury has stirred some uncertainty in the outfield plans. Initially, it seemed Pete Crow-Armstrong might be used primarily as a defensive asset and a speedster off the bench.

However, with Anthony’s addition, there’s potential for Crow-Armstrong to earn a starting role or two during the tournament. Aaron Judge is a lock for one of the starting spots, alongside Byron Buxton from the Minnesota Twins.

Crow-Armstrong is poised to make a significant impact during the Classic. At 23, he flirted with MVP candidacy in the first half of the 2025 season, captivating fans with his passionate play. Although his emotions were scrutinized during a challenging playoff run, the Cubs are emphasizing the importance of allowing him to embrace his natural style as spring training unfolds.

The World Baseball Classic thrives on emotion, and if Crow-Armstrong can channel the form he displayed early last season while representing Team USA, he could emerge as an international star. This opportunity might also set the tone for his 2026 season, offering a chance to solidify his role with the Cubs.

The Cubs are keen to see which version of Crow-Armstrong will define his future-will it be the early-season standout or the player who faced playoff adversity? While the answer remains to be seen, the World Baseball Classic offers a stage for Crow-Armstrong to find the key to consistent success.
