The New England Patriots signed defensive end Truman Jones to the practice squad on Tuesday. To make room for the 148th captain in Crimson history, the organization announced the release of veteran guard Michael Jordan.
Jones, 24, entered the NFL with the Kansas City Chiefs as an undrafted free agent in 2023. The 6-foot-3, 255-pound edge defender did so after appearing in 30 games in the Ivy League, finishing with 88 tackles, including 28.5 for loss, and 14.5 sacks. He also had a hand in three forced fumbles, one fumble recovery and four blocked kicks during his tenure. A Super Bowl LVIII champion, Jones spent all of his rookie season on the practice squad. After reaching a futures contract, he returned for 2024 in that capacity before being released by Kansas City in late November.
Jordan, 26, reverted after serving as a standard elevation for the final time against the Indianapolis Colts. Sunday’s 25-24 loss saw the 6-foot-6, 315-pound Ohio State alum report as eligible and also handle six snaps on special teams. Jordan had cleared waivers last week after totaling 11 starts and 87.7 percent of the offensive workload at left guard. The vested veteran arrived on a futures contract and twice served as a call-up in September before being promoted to the 53-man roster. Entering the NFL with the Cincinnati Bengals in the fourth round of the 2019 class at No. 136 overall, Jordan has also been a member of the Carolina Panthers and Green Bay Packers in a career spanning 67 games and 40 starts.
The practice squad remains at capacity for the 3-10 Patriots following Monday’s addition of rookie linebacker Andrew Parker Jr. and subtraction of veteran linebacker Joe Giles-Harris.
Tuesday marked the final practice at Gillette Stadium before the break.
