The Detroit Lions are in offseason mode, but they’re already making changes and rebuilding for the 2026-27 season. All is fair when it comes to the NFL, on Thursday, January 29, Dan Campbell and the Lions picked up a former Chicago Bears player and ripped him out of Ben Johnson’s clutches.

No, the Detroit Lions didn’t pull someone like Caleb Williams from the Bears’ roster. But, it’s interesting to see Campbell and the Detroit Lions making moves like this so early in the offseason.

It’s worth noting, of course, that the Lions ended their 2025-26 season with a win over the Bears on the road. That game took place on January 4, with a 19-16 final score.

“All right, good win by the guys. Proud of them. That’s the way to finish,” Campbell told reporters after the game. “I really didn’t expect anything different out of them just knowing the guys that we had I tell you what. But, nonetheless I’m still proud of them because it’s not always the easiest thing.”

He added, “You get eliminated and it’s hard for some guys. You’re back out in the elements and with a team that’s already clinched. But our guys fought, man, from the beginning even when they came back, we were up two scores, they came back, our guys didn’t bat an eye and we were able to finish it out. Really one of the best games we’ve played as far as complementary football. That’s really what. A lot of really good performances by a lot of guys.”

Detroit Lions Sign Former Chicago Bears Player

On Thursday, January 29, the Detroit Lions officially signed former Chicago Bears tight end Thomas Gordon to a reserve/future contract. They officially announced the news on social media.

Gordon spent his rookie year in 2025-26 with the Chicago Bears. He inked with the team in August 2025 but didn’t make their 53-man roster. So, he signed to the practice squad in December and wasn’t signed by Chicago to a futures deal after the season ended.

Before joining the Bears, Gordon was on the UFL’s San Antonio Brahmas’ team. But, he only appeared in one game for them and didn’t have any statistics from that game.

So, this move adds some depth to the tight end position. Even though it’s not groundbreaking, it’s true that the Lions might get some tidbits from Gordon’s time with the Bears that could be beneficial.

Jared Goff News From the Detroit Lions

On Monday, January 26, the Detroit Lions announced that quarterback Jared Goff will appear at the 2026 Pro Bowl Games, replacing Sam Darnold.

“Darnold gets to prepare and Goff gets the pro bowl. Nice win for both,” one more added, referring to Darnold getting ready for the big game, as the Seattle Seahawks take on the New England Patriots.

Goff is certainly familiar with the Pro Bowl. This will mark his fifth trip there. Matthew Stafford of the Los Angeles Rams and Dak Prescott of the Dallas Cowboys were the other quarterbacks initially selected for the Pro Bowl from the NFC.
